A Welcome Message from our Interim Head of School

Dear Returning and New K-F Parents and Guardians,

Two weeks into my role as the Interim Head of School at Kew-Forest, I write to you with an early welcome to the 2014-2015 school year. The faculty, staff, and administration look forward to seeing each of you and your children in our classrooms and hallways this September. While I was able to meet some of you this spring, I look forward to meeting many more of you in the coming months.

Individually, and as a school, we at Kew-Forest can fulfill our mission only if we have your trust. Communication is critical to gaining that trust. There will be much to communicate over the course of this year, and this brief note of welcome and invitation serves as a beginning. I will be here much of the summer and will maintain the flexibility to meet briefly with those of you who are able to stop in.
As the administrative team and I reflect on our first few days together, it is clear that there is considerable opportunity to build on the strengths of the current Kew-Forest program. This will begin our year-long process of preparing the school for a new, permanent Head of School, who will start July 1, 2015. With that in mind, every transformation should start with a thoughtful and honest diagnostic appraisal. This will be our focus for much of the remainder of July and into early August.
Thank you for inviting me to lead this dynamic and committed community for the 2014-15 school year. It is a responsibility that I assume with genuine enthusiasm, as my wife Lin and I look forward to the adventure of a year in Forest Hills.
Dr. Eric G. Ruoss
