 | Welcome from the Head of School | Welcome to The Kew-Forest School, and welcome to our new web site! Over the past few months we've devoted a great deal of time and attention to creating a “second generation” web site that better meets the needs of all of our constituents—including current and prospective students, parents, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, and friends. We hope you will find our new format easy to navigate and full of information that helps you understand and appreciate The Kew-Forest School. |
| Who We Are For those who aren't familiar with Kew-Forest, I'd like to give you a little introduction: K-F is an independent, coed, college preparatory school for students in Grades K-12. Our school was established in 1918 to serve the Kew Gardens/Forest Hills community of Queens, but currently draws students from 40 different towns and areas including Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Douglaston, Bayside, Jamaica Estates, Nassau County, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. Its student body boasts a multitude of nationalities, races, and ethnicities and is one of the most diverse you’ll find in any independent school setting. |
|
 | What We Believe Since all K-F graduates are expected to go on to college, our school’s core curriculum and programs emphasize the traditional values in education that provide a solid foundation for post-secondary work. Preparation for college is not our only aim, however. We believe the most important function of any school is to educate a child so that he or she can become a responsible member of society, capable of recognizing the obligations of the individual, as well as the duties of a citizen of a democratic country. To this end, it is the goal of the school, in cooperation with the home, to discover and develop each child’s potential.
We also believe it is essential that children learn to think clearly and logically, formulate independent opinions, and acquire the ability to express ideas and thoughts coherently and well. Each student should know and understand his or her heritage and background and its relevance to the future. Children should learn to work with and for others. Above all, they must experience as early as possible the satisfaction that comes from the successful completion of a job that has been accepted as a responsibility. The dedication to academics, participation in school life, and good manners expected of Kew-Forest students are designed to further this growth. They are also the best preparation for college.

|
 | What We Expect Like most independent schools, Kew-Forest has high expectations for its students and parents. We expect that when a student enters Kew-Forest, he or she does so with the resolve to take advantage of what the school can offer, and that each year the student renews that resolve. We expect and encourage parents to be as involved as possible in the education of their children and the life of our school.
