K-F's Model UN Club Prepares For Upcoming 2019 - 2020 Conferences!

Our Model UN Club has been busy preparing for their upcoming out-of-state conferences!
What is the Model UN Club?
The Model United Nations Club (Model UN) is one of the most popular extracurricular activities in our Upper School; more than 40% of our students will attend at least one major conference this school year.  This year, Kew-Forest will be attending several conferences including four-day events hosted by Rutgers University and Harvard University.
Model UN is an elaborate role-playing and group problem solving exercise in which each student assumes the role of a UN delegate representing their assigned country on a particular UN committee. There are typically twenty to thirty committees operating simultaneously at a conference involving upwards of 3,000 students. The goal of each committee is to develop proposed solutions to one or two of the most challenging problems facing the world today. Solutions are presented in the form of written resolutions, which must be agreed to by a majority of the countries present in the committee.
Kew-Forest students who participate in Model UN take a full-year elective course in International Relations and are trained by Club leaders in public speaking, caucusing, and research. On occasion, the Club has arranged for students to attend a foreign policy briefing with diplomats from the nations they are representing.
In recent years, Kew-Forest students have met with representatives from the Netherlands, Germany, Peru, and Indonesia. Some Club members have earned individual awards and recognition for the excellence of their work at conferences. In March 2018, K-F earned the award for Outstanding Small School at the Philadelphia Model United Nations!
Wishing our Model UN Club all the best this school year and sending a big "thank you" to Mr. Gary Gordon who serves as the faculty advisor for the Club!
