We’re thrilled to announce that our Lower School and Middle School students will be taking part in the Scripps National Spelling Bee! This is an exciting opportunity for all students, both returning and new, to challenge themselves and celebrate their love of words.
All students in Grades 2-5, 7 and 8 will participate in grade-level spelling bees on Wed 21 Oct. Grade 6 will participate on Thurs 22 Oct. Grade-level spelling bees in the Lower School will take place in their classrooms, while the grade-level spelling bee in the Middle School will take place during 8th Grade Writers Workshop, 7th Grade Public Speaking, and 6th Grade Study Skills. Participation is all about fun and growth; student grades will not be impacted by their spelling bee performance.
To prepare for the class spelling bee, students will be provided with a grade level study list. This list consists of the words students will be tested on during the class spelling bee. Please note, however, that the teachers may need to incorporate additional words. The winner of each grade-level spelling bee will advance to a Lower/Middle School-Wide Bee.
The Lower/Middle School-Wide Bee will be held on Wed 18 Nov. More information will be shared in the upcoming weeks.
The students who take first and second place will advance to take the Regional Qualifier Online Test via the Scripps Online Testing Platform. Please note, however, that only students in grades 4-8 may advance to the Regional Qualifier. Top scorers on the Regional Qualifier Online Test will advance to the New York City Spelling Bee which will take place in person in mid-March 2027.
We are very excited about this opportunity as it will help our students strengthen their spelling skills and expand their vocabulary.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Lambert or Ms. Vessio.
