The Middle School Physical Education program is designed to introduce students to exercise through a fitness program and to prepare students for the more rigorous high school PE program.

At the beginning of the school year, students are introduced to the PE class rules, routines, and procedures. They then take the Kew-Forest Fitness Test to measure their muscular strength/endurance, cardio-respiratory endurance, speed, agility, and flexibility to acquire a baseline assessment of their fitness condition through a series of physical challenges. Students are tested on activities such as curl ups, planks, push-ups, vertical jump, long jump, 50-yard dash, shuttle run, sit and reach, pull-ups, flexed arm hang, and the mile run.

From mid-October to April, students learn about nutrition and anatomy and begin a regimen of cardiovascular training, active isolated stretching, muscular conditioning and sport-specific skill building. Students also learn the importance of sportsmanship and how to play such sports as soccer, football, European handball, basketball, kickball, and volleyball. At the end of the final semester, students retake the fitness test to measure how they progressed throughout the year.
