Kew-Forest Model UN Club Attends the American University Model UN Online Conference (“AmeriMUNC”).
The first weekend of Spring Break, 17 Kew-Forest students attended the American University Model UN Online Conference (“AmeriMUNC”). Our students had an enjoyable, engaging, and successful experience.
The theme of the Conference was “The Mediterranean in Crisis” and the opening guest speakers spoke directly to that theme. Committee sessions were conducted on Zoom, all messaging between delegates was done using Slack, and written collaborative work was shared on Google documents.
Four of K-F students earned awards:
GABBY earned the award for “Best Delegate” on the Venice City Government Committee representing Deputy Mayor Andrea Tomaello. She also earned the “Diplomacy” award, which was determined by a vote of the other delegates on this advanced Crisis Committee.
RICK earned the “Outstanding Delegate” award representing Greece in the European Union.
BEN earned an “Honorable Mention” award representing the Russian Federation on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees
AIDAN earned an “Honorable Mention” award representing Chad in the African Union.
One of the unusual features of this Conference was that each participant got individual written feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of their performance in the areas of public speaking, collaboration, and writing. The delegate feedback forms contained constructive critiques but also had very positive things to say about many of our students.
Congrats to all of our students who participated and Mr. Gary Gordon for organizing as the Model UN Club Advisor. GO JAGUARS!
