Dear Kew-Forest Families,

In moments of stillness over the last several months, I have contemplated the life we knew before March 2020 as well as the unexpected hardships and the unexpected lessons we have experienced. Living through a pandemic has not been easy and the uncertainty has tested our strength and resiliency. Through it all we have learned that we can do hard things especially when we do them together. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. quote above speaks to me and I hope it speaks to each of you as the Kew-Forest community embarks on another segment of this journey together.

I am pleased to share with you The Kew-Forest School Reopening Plan. The Plan aligns with guidance from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), New York State Education Department (NYSED), and State Office of Religious and Independent Schools (SORIS) and takes into consideration our unique independent school campus and community. Please take the time to read the Plan, noticing the thought and care that went into its creation. Please also save the Plan or refer to it here on our website ( for the Plan, past Head of School summer updates, and COVID-19 resources as they become available) so that you can refer to specific sections as needed.

As September approaches, please keep in mind that Kew-Forest will continue to finetune and share Plan details as well as pay close attention to national, regional, and local updates about return-to-school and COVID-19 incidence rates. Our community’s health and safety is our priority and this means that the School is ready to pivot as needed to further mitigate risk and protect community members. Now, more than ever, please stay connected and look for and read our Kew-Forest communications.

In good health,
Carla Jantos MacMullen
