Middle School Curriculum
Core courses include English, science, mathematics, history, Spanish, computer science, and physical education. Grade 6 students benefit from a dedicated Study Skills course that supports their transition to Middle School. As they advance to Grades 7 and 8, students engage in signature Public Speaking, Debate, and Writers Workshop courses. Through these courses, they develop and refine the research, interview, presentation, and writing skills needed to transform a question or passion into self-initiated, self-directed service learning experiences as part of the IB Middle Years Programme* Community Project.
The Middle Years Program
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme* (MYP) aims to enhance the overall Middle School curriculum through its focus on nurturing self-directed inquiry, problem-solving, making important connections across subjects, and instilling the confidence students need to become the drivers of their own learning process. The focus on conceptual and global frameworks in the Middle Years Programme helps students at Kew-Forest develop a sense of global, national, and local citizenship through a framework that furthers a student’s ability to understand their place in the world and how they can make an impact. Therefore, as students advance through the Middle Years Programme, they gain confidence through meticulously crafted units constructed to allow all types of learners to build and reflect on skills such as communication, self-management, research, and collaboration, helping to ensure that they enter high school and beyond ready to meet any challenge.
