Upper School Arts

Music

The Upper School music program typically offers four different electives. Each course offers a comprensive focus on performance, theory, and composition components. The most popular elective is piano, where students learn through a curriculum catered to each individual’s ability. Some enter the class with no experience while others enter it with years of experience. Over the semester, students build a repertoire of music they have learned and can perform. A salon is held at the end of each month where students share their progress with the rest of the class and receive feedback from their peers.

Visual Arts

Upper School Visual Arts classes foster an appreciation of the visual arts and help students develop the creative forces that inspire them to be innovative thinkers in all endeavors. Students draw, paint, sculpt, design and build. Projects are designed around different subject themes and are inspired by the works and styles of various artists. In Upper School Art, students develop a rich vocabulary of technical processes, tools, art movements, and artists. The Visual Arts program offers Studio Art, Advanced Studio Art, as well as AP 2D and 3D Art. In addition to these more traditional courses, students who have an interest in graphic design can choose from courses such as Media Arts.
