Humanitarian Club Raises $500+ for Neighbors for Refugees

Thanks to the hard work of the students in the Humanitarian Club and the generosity of the Kew-Forest community, over $550+ was raised earlier this week from their Valentine’s Day Bake & Plant Sale. Monies raised will go towards the charity, Neighbors for Refugees. Neighbors for Refugees helps to resettle and provide vital services to refugees and asylum seekers.

ABOUT THE HUMANITARIAN CLUB
Members of the Humanitarian Club in the Middle and Upper School come up with and perform creative acts of kindness as a group. The club aims to bring the Kew-Forest community together to spread positivity and kindness.

Acts of kindness can include: hiding notes of encouragement around the School for others to find, creating posters that promote kindness and positivity, writing appreciation letters for the teachers, and hosting bake sales to fundraise for charities.

The Faculty Club Advisor is Ms. Milano and the Student Club Leader is Maya A.

ABOUT NEIGHBORS FOR REFUGEES
Refugees and immigrants bravely leave behind everything to seek safety, a life free from fear, and the chance for a new start. We are a non-political, grassroots humanitarian group located in Westchester County, NY, organized to welcome Westchester refugees and other new Americans to Westchester and communities nearby.

As volunteers, we come alongside our new neighbors to empower them throughout their first year of transition as they reach self-sufficiency. We provide services such as setting up an apartment before their arrival, orienting them to their new community, getting children in school and adults into ESL classes, assisting in locating jobs or building a business, and supporting them in navigating a new culture and language.
