Student Council Supports The Pulsera Project for Hispanic Heritage Month

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month this year, Student Council is supporting The Pulsera Project.  Pulseras (handwoven bracelets) are being sold for $5 each and bolsitas (small bags) are $10 each.    
 
Please stop by the Kew-Forest Lane entrance from 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.  from Monday, September 27 – Friday, October 8.   Payment must be made with exact change.  To date, over $735+ has been raised.  GO JAGUARS!
 
ABOUT THE PULSERA PROJECT
The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that began in 2009 when a group of friends traveling in Central America discovered a community of artists in the foothills of Nicaragua.  The artisans were masters at weaving colorful bracelets (or “pulseras” in Spanish) but had little market to sell their artwork in Nicaragua.  A few of the travelers returned to the U.S. with handfuls of pulseras to sell on behalf of their new artisan friends. 
 
Today The Pulsera Project works with artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala and provides a market for their handmade bracelets or pulseras in schools across the U.S. Each bracelet comes tagged with the photo and the signature of the artist who made it.
 
Money raised from the pulsera sales will sustain employment for nearly 200 artisans and will also fund housing, healthcare, scholarships, social enterprises, and other empowerment programs that benefit the artists and communities throughout Central America.
